Experience the magic of the holiday season at our annual St. Nick’s Day Family Celebration on Saturday, December 6, from 1:30 to 4:30pm, at the Hungarian House in New York City. Organized in partnership with the Arany János Hungarian School and the Hungarian Scout Association in Exteris, this beloved annual event will be filled with time-honored Hungarian traditions and heartwarming moments for children and their families.
Festivities kick off with holiday crafts designed for tiny hands and big imaginations. Under the guidance of artisan Andrea Nehéz, families can decorate beautifully iced gingerbread cookies inspired by Hungarian folk motifs. They’ll also have the opportunity to create traditional Advent centerpieces from natural materials like pine branches, berries, and candles, and craft their very own handmade Christmas ornaments.
As always, the highlight of the day will be a special visit from St. Nicholas himself. Children will have the chance to meet him in person, sit on his lap, and receive a traditional Mikulás csomag, best known as a red bag filled with sweet treats. Adding to the magic of the afternoon, live Hungarian folk music will fill the Hungarian House, inviting families to sing along and celebrate the season together.
Whether you’re looking to reconnect with your Hungarian heritage or simply enjoy a festive afternoon, this celebration is intended for children attending with an accompanying adult or two. Registration is now open, but space is limited, so please be sure to register by Monday, December 1 to reserve your spot.
