We are excited to share the success of our first off-site exhibition, "Eggcellent Symmetry," held at the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) in New York. On display from March 22, 2024, through May 12, 2024, this exciting collaboration with MoMath showcased the fascinating intersection of math and art, brought to life through the exquisite work of Hungarian folk artist and mathematician, Ildikó Fekete, a former grant recipient of the Tulipán Foundation.

"Eggcellent Symmetry" invited visitors to explore the captivating world of Eastern European egg decoration, a cherished tradition across Hungary, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, and beyond. On display were 156 intricately decorated eggs, each with its own unique narrative conveyed through vibrant colors and detailed motifs, all rooted in mathematical principles. The art of egg decoration embraces geometry, employing concepts such as symmetry, tessellation, and fractals to transform the delicate surface of an eggshell into a breathtaking work of art.

Beyond their aesthetic beauty, these eggs carry deep cultural significance, symbolizing fertility, protection, and prosperity. Through their intricate patterns, artists like Fekete pay tribute to the rich traditions and heritage of their communities, making each egg not just a decorative object but a meaningful expression of cultural identity.

This exhibition exemplifies the Tulipán Foundation’s dedication to sharing Hungarian culture with broader audiences while showcasing the intrinsic connection between mathematics and the arts. We are immensely proud to have partnered with MoMath once again, creating a space where creativity, tradition, and mathematics converge in such a stunning and meaningful way.

We invite you to join us in continuing to explore these unique cultural traditions as we embark on more exciting collaborations and exhibitions that bridge the realms of art, culture, and mathematics.
